1. About us

The programme was set up in 2005, supported by Health Bureau of Chaoyang District, Chaoyang Disease prevention and control Centre, and Chaoyang Care-people Health Center. The programme aimed to promote drug users's behaviour change in Beijing and help them take the healthy way of act.

2.What are we doing

(1) what is drug harm reduction:

Drug harm reduction is to bring down the danger individually and socially, especially the danger of AIDS linked with drug abuse, which is a practical and humanistic attitude. It aims to keep people away from narcotics, but at the same time protect their dignity and legal rights. For twenty years, such comprehensive prevention items have played a very positive role in both developed and developing countries.( such as Australia, England and Canada.)

(2)the contents of our work

Referring rehabilitation: we help addicts with rehabilitation wishes to obtain national methadone service or refer them to relative rehabilitation centers

Healthy treatment: we provide drug users with VCT consultation examination, health consultation and hotline, free CD4 examination, tuberculosis testing and treatment.

Articles delivery: various delivery of clean needling instruments, condom issuing, alcohol cotton ball and propaganda materials.

Special care: offer free physical examination and treatment, language translation of each ethnic group and team activities to addicts from other places.

3. Our progress

(1) our achivement

The project has a team of stable and excellent peer education volunteers, with intervention target group of 500 covering 15 districts and countries focused on Chaoyang district in Beijing.Until now, over 240 addicts have been referred to use the methadone through this project, and 300,000 clean needles released with a recycling rate of 90%.

Successfully conducted a spot investigation aiming at 100 addicts, set up a new service mode of " one-to-one", and help Xinjiang Uyghur to take methadone.

Build a hotline of addicts, so as to help them with physical support.

(2) our friends

The project has received attention from both domestic and foreign people, and cooperated and communicated comprehensively with many local and foreign institutions like DIFD(China and Britain prograame), Bill &Melinda Gates Foundation, the UNAIDS,the The UN's drugs office, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and so on.
